Corporate Interaction with Dell CFO at SIBM


Bengaluru, Karnataka (23rd July, 2013) – Symbiosis Institute of Business Management Bengaluru, hosted an interactive session addressed by Mr. Tom Sweet, Vice President - Corporate Finance and Controller, Dell Inc., making students aware of Dell’s Global strategies. Along with him, Ms. Karen Wright (Executive Director, Apps & BPO) and Mr. Rajeev Kapoor (Finance Head, Dell India) were also present. Ms. Shreya Gupta and Mr. Bhagwati Varanasi, alumni of the institute who are currently working with Dell, were also present to motivate the students.

Mr. Sweet spoke about the global technology markets and their present trends and he also informed about the finance development programs initiated by Dell. He focused his talk on the Business Strategy Model of Dell and how Dell as a company is undergoing transformation at present (regarding its LBO (Leveraged Buy Out)). He said “In today’s global economy, transformation is a continuous process. For a technology firm, the process of transformation can never be complete. A global firm needs to be constantly updated.”

The other significant topics he touched were on what Dell expects from the management graduates. Stressing upon this, he said “We can teach them the technical aspects of the job, but soft skills like intellectual curiosity and willingness to work has to come from within.” He further reinforced the idea of being a team player and finding solutions together.

His interesting talk was followed by a question & answer session. Saylee Warade, a student from the senior batch, posed an intriguing question to him regarding the future of PC Market in the world, particularly with respect to Dell. He patiently replied that PC’s were the forerunners of technology and they are here to stay. However, they will change form & utility.
