OLD IS GOLD – a Student Drive!
Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru reaffirmed
the meaning of “Symbiosis”, when over 350 of its MBA students enthusiastically
donated their unused items to the needy ones. The social drive named as “Old is
Gold” was in association with an NGO, to work for the disadvantaged. This
initiative was completed with the help of student driven “Social Responsibility
Committee” (SRC) of the college who not only motivated students, staff to
donate but also spread awareness about charity This drive was spread over a
month, and was concluded on July 13, 2013.
The collected items were stored in hostel, which motivated
the students who then came
forward to donate and be a part of this contenting drive. With this social
drive, the MBA students realized that everyone wants to contribute to the
society but often subside because of lack of opportunity. It is here that the initiations
the college provided a platform for all to make a contribution in their own
way.
Symbiosis International University (SIU) based on the tenets of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and giving back to the society has definitely
propelled the students and staff alike towards such philanthropic deeds. It is
in the wake of such social events that students who are the future management
professionals and who will drive the economy of the nation understand their
moral responsibility towards the society. The students who took part in this
charitable drive also felt that it fostered a lot of solidarity amongst them as
they found themselves on a common platform of aiding the needy sections of the
society.
Tanuj Agarwalla, a co-organizer of this drive says “’Old is Gold’ is
an initiative that we undertake every year to donate clothes to the
underprivileged through a NGO. It is yet another endeavor by us to help the
society in whatever small way we can. A smile on a few faces is all that we
strive to achieve through this.”
Prashant Patro, a first year student of the college says “Things
which were lying useless with us may be useful for some people and help in
making their lives better. I wish that such events happen regularly and all of
us get a chance to contribute meaningfully for the society.”
In today’s corporate
driven world when most people associate MBAs with mangers only focused on
profits, SIBM-B students with their benevolent gesture have added a new hue to
the persona of MBAs.
